Magazine Front Cover Analysis

I decided to put my masthead in the center of the page at the top because i wanted it to be the first thing that people see when it is on the shelf. I made it the largest thing on the front cover so it stood out, and i decided to use the colour black although it isn't a bright colour i felt that it stood out well especially with the white background behind as well. I also wanted the name to stick with the audience so making it bold was very important if i wanted the name 'Ranch' to stick with them. I got much inspiration from the Kerrang front cover, they use the background to make the masthead standout, using red and white it make the white stand out ahead of the red background, I used a white background with the black font and it works well.
When analysing  the Kerrang magazine i saw they used boarders at the top and bottom of the page, I thought this gave the cover a good shape an also made it stand out more. I did this with my magazine with more subtle colours so it would relate to the Country genre.

The dominant image was inspired by a country theme, so i wanted it to be in a rural location which i why i chose to have a field in the background and the model sitting on a fence. For my dominant image placement, I made it the main artist who would be in the feature article, Oscar Walton, I wanted him to take the hole page and then put everything else around it. However I didn't want him to cover up anything so I put him under the masthead, I saw in the Kerrang front cover I looked at they covered some of the Masthead with the dominant image, I didn't want to do this as it would of made it stand out less in my opinion. I wanted the name of the dominant image artist to be near him so it would easily indicate what his name was for people that wouldn't recognize him by the face. This is why i put it over him in the center of the page because the white background of the t-shirt helped it to stand out.
